Waiting for the washing machine

We have been waiting for the new washing machine, it's taken nearly a month to arrive!   Really fancy a Starbucks snowman donut..  Hope it comes soon!

We had a great Christmas been ill most of December

We have been ill most of December, and just caught another cold.

Despite illness, we have had a nice Christmas and looking forward to the new year!

I've been sick as a dog...  Thankfully my husband made us my favourite dinner to cheer me up :))

There are still issues at the kids school.   I can't believe people make life as difficult as possible on purpose...  Doesn't make any sense to me.   Having a child with a handicap is enough of a challenge rather than fighting decisions that someone hadn't thought through and undoing them or getting them to see reason...  As if special needs parents don't have enough to do!

Our superhero was away this weekend

Our cp superhero was away gore Halloween super camp, he had a brilliant time as always :) nice to have him back :)

Snow is on its way

Not looking forward to score coming back.... Physiotherapist here I come.

Wonderful Fall weather :)

We have been blessed with the most wonderful Fall weather!  Gorgeous blue skies etc.

The last two years we never went on the adapt your home, home renovation tour...  Because it was snowing!!

This year we went, the house we saw had an elevator to all 3-4 floors!  And widened passageways....  You could go from the garage up too...  The bathroom looked great too!   Really cool.

We had a great Thanksgiving

We went to the local theme park, went ice skating, had a wonderful thanksgiving dinner, also a playdate/dinner with friends and enjoyed watching films together and celebrating our little ones birthday too!

Tiny bit apprehensive about meeting Oaties teacher, to discuss this year...  Either they believe in him or they don't....  If they do he will flourish and if not...  That wouldn't be good lol!

Celebrated our little ones birthday early

We went family skating and then had friends over for a little gathering for our little ones birthday party.  We celebrated early because she's a turkey baby (thanksgiving) so I've finally got in to the swing of when to hold it.....  After thanksgiving is too close to Halloween celebrations..

Today Oatie participated in the Terry Fox run, he did 5 laps in his wheelchair in 20 minutes which was 2km.  The school fundraised for this event.

Spelling tests, times tables

Oatie is doing OK in school.   We are meeting his teacher next week.   Oatie is having some independence issues, his pencil 'lead' snapped and so he couldn't complete his test, because he didn't ask for help...  And things like that...

His teacher is really nice so I'm sure we will find strategies for him to keep up :)

Parents info night

Oatie will be my translator this evening at parents info night...  Thursday is my busiest day,  mad dash between helping my eldest feel like he's contributing towards his school trip by collecting the papers, swimming and then parents and tot swimming, followed by a nice cup of tea with a friend, School pick up doing a paper route that we have to do in 20 minutes, and then get oatie and his offer sibs to piano to then going home, dinner..  Oatie and our little one off to school for info night and older two off skating...  Lol!  Looking forward to snuggling up in bed later lol!

tired Oat

Oatie was so tired after school yesterday, he rushed to the washroom and then went to bed... I had made his favourite food for dinner and he said, let him sleep and then he woke up this morning.  He's been going to bed earlier than even last year... as our older two are skating late evening....so I stay home with the other two and bath them and put them to bed :)

I wonder if the hour each way is finishing him off... his room is still super tidy so I'm really getting inspired to get my ABR tools out again :))  (It's actually nice in his room rather than a death trap).

can't sleep

Can't sleep, the school thing has been really bothering me... rather than giving the school year a good kickstart... it had totally unexpected challenges that I could have never imagined would have occurred.  They all knew that Oatie was in a wheelchair before the Summer holidays' it wasn't like a new thing... so why on earth would anyone move the handicapped school bus in a near by car park!  I have pushed his wheelchair in the snow and it made me want to cry when it's grounded... so to think of another person who isn't even related to him to do that...   As is it just snow on the ground, it had to have snowed... what are the parameters?  Will his bus go into the SAFE bus loop and get told to get out!!!  these are proper school buses... where as the bullies parents are abusing the bus loop by being lazy and dropping their kid off in the loop!!!

School Day one....

OMG, seriously.....

My grade 7 felt like he's been put back in to Kindergarten... and the bus is now 1 hour... and then another school division seems to have declared war on my kids school division and to cut a long story short, it appears that our school division and buses were bullied by another school divisions buses... so our school now has been given another area for our kids to load and offload so the bullies win!  Now my kids are late into school every day as this bus stop is a 5 minute walk from the school door and they have now said after I complained that on the snowy days, Oatie's bus may use the old location (their schools bus loop) in their opinion as I have been finding out that the bus loop is apparently the town's property not the bullies....

And we teach our kids to share so it gives adults who work with kids the licence to be a bully and demonstrate such like behaviour to the kids on the bus?!?!?! OMG seriously!

Getting ready for the back to school

Oatie is going into Grade three, his brother and Sister are going into Grade 7 & 5.

They are still all at the same school and our youngest is likely to go to preschool there so I will have all 4 in school in the same building lol!

We haven't heard from the bus driver yet as to our pick up... and as much as we liked the last bus driver, her daughter and Oatie used to Bicker on the bus and every day after school the bus driver used to complain about him... (thinking it takes two to tango)  Oatie is no saint lol!  He's firecracker... but at the same time, when it's his own classmates he's usually happy to sit and read...

Smoke in the City from the forest fires

We had to cut our camping short as there were forest fires from BC blowing in and, we had a health warning of 12-16 which meant don't go outside.... so it was lovely and warm but you couldn't go outside....  The smoke was quite toxic... which after the smoke cleared... there was a def chill in the air... which signals FALL :(

For Oaties birthday we went to the cinema to see the minions movie,  Chinese takeout, bought a chest pad for sledge hockey...  And went swimming...

Had a fantastic trip can't wait to tell you all about it!

We had a fantastic trip, including road trip and had so many fun adventures I can't wait to tell you all about it.

Oatie had a hospital appointment and I was blown away by his principle and new school board OT who surprised us by coming to the appointment too for adaptive technology for Oatie.  Although they can't help us at the hospital directly, I think it was good for the principle, the OT and the Hospital adaptive technology person to all be connected and Oatie could try out different keyboards and touch pads and what works what they know at the hospital in combination to our OT who just moved province, so I think it was a good meeting all round as what the OT learned too, she can use to help other kids as we waited 2 years for this appointment and Oatie has been chucked out the clinic without a face-face 2 times previously for not being severe... the Principle put her foot down and said, I want the appointment..

What is good is that before there is a problem, the school/we are getting the technology he needs in place in advance and training him on it so he CAN keep up with his mainstream peers, and not be at the hurdle and then we go... NOW WHAT?!! And he falls behind...

Had a great Easter

No more snow ❄ hopefully!  We usually get A last huge dump in April, but we seemed to have missed it this year! Thankfully fire wheelchair users in the area :)

Things are going well at school still

Today my big sister helped me to learn to knit!  I hold my knitting needles slightly differently but I'm getting the hang of it!  Not bad for a kid with cp:)

We went skiing, Oatie's been having some issues at school too,  he has found the limitations of the wheelchair really hard recently....

Good and bad

You think you get all your ducks lined up in a row, oatie is doing great at school, asthma under control... And then,  problems on the bus, partially a bully ams part oaties immaturity...

Skating was so much fun

We had a great time and so much improvement each week!

The weather is icy...

Spent a few hours to make our driveway wheelchair friendly for the school bus this week,  which includes the road outside our house.... As otherwise the ramp can't get lowered properly...
